As part of the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Communications Ch. Nomin officially introduced Mongolia’s “Green AI Data Center Initiative” to international investors, technology companies, and development finance institutions. 

The event was opened with remarks by Prime Minister of Mongolia N. Uchral, who highlighted Mongolia’s vast territory, cool and dry climate, and abundant solar and wind resources as key advantages for developing green data centers. He also invited international partners to cooperate with Mongolia, share their technology and expertise, and invest in the development of this initiative. 

During the event, B. Myagmarnaran, State Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Communications of Mongolia, and G. Khatanbold, Chief Executive Officer of ICT Group JSC, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in developing public-private partnerships, putting data into economic circulation, developing and exporting artificial intelligence products and services, and implementing a project to establish a high-performance computing center. 

Under the MoU, the parties will cooperate in the following areas: 

1. Developing high-performance computing infrastructure required for the development, research, and deployment of national artificial intelligence products and services; 

1. Exploring opportunities to utilize government data, big data, and artificial intelligence technologies, and developing projects and services to be implemented through public-private partnerships; 

1. Creating a favorable legal, regulatory, and policy environment necessary for establishing AI data centers, attracting domestic and international investment, and supporting cooperation with international technology and strategic partners; 

1. Developing green and sustainable data center solutions through the use of renewable and clean energy and the adoption of energy-efficient technologies; 

1. Supporting the development of new businesses, innovation, and human resources in Mongolia based on artificial intelligence technologies, data centers, and high-performance computing infrastructure, while ensuring effective coordination and cooperation among government institutions.
